Welcome to 2023 Wilton Girls Youth Lacrosse
Overview:
The goal of the Wilton Lacrosse Association (WLA) is to foster passion for the sport of Lacrosse in Wilton’s youth. Wilton has one of the oldest and most storied youth lacrosse programs in Connecticut. As a town we take pride in the sport, our athletes, and the tradition and legacy we've built over many years.
The WLA strives to create a nurturing and positive environment where children can learn the sport and excel based upon their skill level and commitment to pursuing higher levels of play if interested. Towards this goal, the WLA Girls Youth Lacrosse Committee will offer three different types of girls youth lacrosse programs; Intramurals for grade 1-2, House League for grades 3-4 and Travel for grades 5-8. Please be sure to read the program descriptions under the "Girls Youth" menu tab above.
For planning purposes please review both the summary information below, as well as the respective program descriptions located under the "Girls Youth" menu of the website. There you will find additional information on the various programs including dates, frequency of programming and breaks and holiday information.
EQUIPMENT:
Players must furnish their own stick, regulation eye goggles, colored mouth guards (2), and cleats. Players without eye goggles and mouth guards will be strictly prohibited from playing. There are no exceptions to this safety rule. No jewelry (including pierced ear studs) is allowed.
All Wilton Lacrosse participants are insured through US Lacrosse and must abide by USWLA Youth Rules of play.
UNIFORMS FOR 5th-8th grade TRAVEL TEAMS:
- Uniforms will be purchased directly by parents in 2023. If you purchased a uniform last year, you may re-use this uniform for 2023, or you can purchase a new one. WE HAVE A NEW UNIFORM DESIGN THIS YEAR. IF you are new to the program a number will be assigned to you. If you are a returning player and need a new uniform please keep the same number. YOU CAN USE LAST YEARS UNIFORM BUT MOST WILL BE UPGRADING TO THE NEW STYLE.

Important Player Segmentation Announcement for 2020:
2020 CONNY Player Age Segmentation Change: The Eligibility Committee recommended, and the Executive Committee has unanimously approved, changing the oldest birthday permitted for each year group from the September 1st preceding the season to the July 1st preceding the season (except 14U for which the birthday cutoff remains the March 1 preceding the season to accommodate old-in-grade 8thgraders who would have no place to play). The attached Press Release, suitable for distribution to your parents if you wish, explains the background and rationale for this change.
The 2020 CONNY Age Divisions will, therefore, be as shown below. Member programs should adjust their registration accordingly.

· All teams are organized by birth year, with single birth year teams strongly preferred. Where numbers or other circumstances don’t allow that, two birth year combined teams are permitted within a CONNY Age Division (e.g. Junior, Senior).
· While CONNY strongly discourages the practice, especially for combined teams, a player may “play up” on an older birth year team (e.g., a 12U eligible player on a 13U team).
· 14U 8th graders born before March 1, 2005 may petition to play with their grade. Detailed criteria for such petitions may be found in CONNY Regulation II.4 under About CONNY/Regulations at www.CONNYlacrosse.org.
· 9U through 13U players may petition to play down one birth year group. Detailed criteria for such petitions may be found in CONNY Regulation II.5 under About CONNY/Regulations at www.CONNYlacrosse.org.
· For Bantam teams, CONNY will not enforce a strict age cutoff, giving programs the option to use or not use the 6/1 birth year cutoff date. However, member programs are encouraged to organize even Bantams by the birthday cutoff that applies to older teams.
The full CONNY Board of Directors will be asked to ratify these changes to the CONNY Rules and Regulations at its September 24 meeting, but Executive Committee knew it was important to get them out to the membership before programs begin 2020 registration.
